The other candidates and the MSM are just flat out scared of Dr. Paul now, hoping to avoid having to confront him or be confronted by him because they know they always lose. No more half-witted attempts to make him look bad, no more strange cackling while he speaks, just avoiding eye contact seems to be their plan.
Total Times
Romney: 21:11, during 13 times
McCain: 16:00, during 13 times
Giuliani: 13:50, during 11 times
Huckabee: 12:11, during nine times Paul: 6:31, during six times
John McCain was very confused.
And then of course there’s the strange “man behind the curtain” whispering to Romney, apparently the brains of the operation.
The Real ID basically amounts to an illegal threat to our privacy, security and identity. The national ID card, potentially a forced replacement of your driver’s license, would track your every move, make you more susceptible to identity theft, and likely decrease national security. John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani want to help the HSD implement it.
[Ironically Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Barack Obama each have had their private passport information accessed illegally by contractors working for the government.]
Real ID watchdog group The Visible Vote 08 has praised Ron Paul for his consistently strong opposition to the Real ID Act:
“(T)he strongest opponent of the Act among presidential candidates is Ron Paul, who has taken every opportunity to warn of the creation of a national ID card and the threat to individual privacy facing Americans as a result of enactment of Real ID… Ron Paul is the only presidential candidate who has consistently raised the issue of the Real ID Act in presidential debates this year.”
Visible Vote notes that Republican candidates John McCain, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani all support the Real ID Act.
Why is there not a bigger outcry against the Real ID Act? Some of the details of the Act finally hit mainstream news this past week, but its definitely not a new piece of legislation. (more…)
Going purely on hand-counts, which as we saw in Sutton were by no means angelic but at least harder to cheat on than Diebold voting machines without getting caught, Ron Paul would have won 15% of the vote and finished third. This figure would have more accurately correlated to the pre-primary polls rather than the ridiculous 8% he was eventually given.
It’s good to see that this story is finally getting more mainstream media attention.
Appearing on MSNBC’s Live with Dan Abrams, FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches and his group, 9/11 Firefighters and Families, are challenging Giuliani’s 9/11 credibility. Riches said: “We are going to follow him around and tell the true story of what happened on 9/11.” … “and get the message out to all of America and every state to let them know that Rudy Giuliani is not Mr 9/11. He’s not a hero. He ran that day.”
An article in the New York Post also quotes Jim Riches:
“Giuliani is running on 9/11 and portraying himself as a hero. It’s disgusting. It’s horrible,” FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches said.
“This guy will do anything to get elected.”
“He’s misleading voters and distorting the truth. He didn’t prepare the first responders for a terrorist attack. The Office of Emergency Management was a joke that day. There was a lack of communication. People died unnecessarily.”
Jim Riches also appeared on CNN with Wolf Blitzer and was asked if he was trying to “swift boat” Giuliani:
“Let’s get right to the issue,” Blitzer said. “Are you trying to ‘swiftboat’ Rudy Giuliani?”
“No, we’re going to set the record straight on 9/11 and we don’t think he’s the hero he says he was or the leader,” Riches said.
Riches, who lost his son when the Towers collapsed, faults Giuliani for the Fire Department’s faulty radios, a lack of training at the World Trade Center, an inept Office of Emergency Management, and “incompetent and cowardly” police and fire commissioners.
“I take it that you’re thinking of starting what’s called a 527, a committee that would raise money to go after a specific candidate without being involved in any another candidate, is that right?” Blizter asked.
“We’re all from different-, we’re conservatives, we’re Democrats and I voted for Bush and I voted for Giuliani three times,” Riches said, “This is not political, this is strictly about his leadership.”
Riches also rejected claims by the Giuliani campaign that his group was politicizing 9/11.
“Well, that’s a lie because they’ve politicized it from day one and if he wants to run on his record of failure and everything else then let him run on it, but we’re going to set the truth out,” Riches said.
Yet another interesting article compares the rhetoric in Giuliani’s “look at me I’m a great 9/11 hero”ad campaign claims with the realities and it doesn’t look good for “America’s Mayor”:
CNN reports that “the percentage of support for Paul grew from 4 percent to 8 percent, putting him fourth among the GOP contenders in the Granite State.”
“The Texas congressman, who once ran for president on the Libertarian Party ticket, has gained notice as the sole advocate of a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq among the GOP field — and he raised eyebrows in Washington earlier this month when supporters claimed to have raised $4.3 million in a single day of online fund-raising. The figure can’t be independently confirmed until Federal Election Commission reports are filed at the end of the year.”
The report also noted that “Romney’s support grew from 25 percent to 33 percent over the same period; McCain held steady at 18 percent; and Giuliani dipped from 24 to 16 percent.”
Rudy Giuliani insists on making his association with 9/11 the centerpiece of his 2008 presidential bid. “America’s Mayor” tries to use this connection to give himself credibility and to strengthen his resume in a quest to become the next Commander-in-chief in the so-called war on terror. The courageous New York City firefighters and their families know better, however, and here they speak out against Giuliani as some of his most ardent – and credible – detractors as they set the record straight.
Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, and Mitt Romney have all joined Michael Mukasey in refusing to denounce the use of waterboarding on detainees, a technique classified as torture since the Spanish Inquisition.
5,775 votes were cast in the Values Voters Straw Poll. Each FRC Action member has a unique identifier used when they vote electronically, thus allowing each voter only one vote. FRC Action could choose to either vote on-line, by mail, or at electronic voting stations. All the candidates from both political parties were included on the ballot. Here’s the results:

According to the website “FRC Action is dedicated to preserving and advancing the interests of family, faith, and freedom in the political arena.” It seems to be an organization largely supported by the religious right.
