Civil liberties? Constitutional rights? Common sense? No, no and no. You can’t count on any of them anymore in the emerging united police states of America. It seems that personal recording devices are about the only remaining, reliable method for self-defense against tyranny. Keep them with you, in your car and in your house.
Not to keep bashing on cops, but this blog is about liberty and it’s defense. It seems there are more and more abuses of it all the time by police and people need to be aware that this is happening. I’ve only seen a small fraction of what’s actually been recorded (this is not something I go looking for) and what’s recorded is only a fraction of what’s taking place. You may not be able to prevent run-ins with abusive police (and I’m not saying all police are bad — there is a chance you’ll come across a good one) but at least if you record the interaction you’ll have a safety net. Besides, they have their cameras everywhere all the time watching us. If you don’t document your experience then the police will have all the power if it comes down to their word against yours. Guilty until proven innocent is now the norm for common citizens — the burden of proof is on us.
Apparently this incident occurred last summer (even though this video just hit the internet a few days ago). That Officer Rivieri dude rightfully was suspended for his actions. Nevermind that it will probably just amount to a paid vacation.
