Ron Paul Thanksgiving Food Drive: Freedom in Action!

The outpouring of Ron Paul fundraising support has been amazing lately. The November 5th $4.3 million event broke fundraising records, and the December 16th “tea party” is shaping up to be even better. There are already around 15,000 pledges for December 16th. There were around 18,000 pledges for the November 5th fundraiser, which resulted in over $4.3 million donated. So at this pace, and with a month still to gain more pledges, December 16th will undoubtedly break Paul’s November 5th one-day fundraising record and will very likely meet the 10 million dollar one day goal set for the event!

With all this amazing support and publicity coming from the Ron Paul fundraising events, I have been wondering….why isn’t there a Thanksgiving Day fundraiser planned? After all, it was on November 26th, 1789 that George Washington recommended to Congress that there be a national Thanksgiving Day observed in the United States. Congress approved.

Washington declared:

“Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country…for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed…and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions—to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually…To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us—and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.”

The declaration came just days after the new Constitution was ratified. Washington was suggesting that it be a day on which Americans could thank God for “affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness” and for having “been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed… ”

Washington hoped and declared that Thanksgiving Day would be a day of gratitude for and reflection on the great divine gift of our national Constitution!

What better day can there be than Thanksgiving to rally supporters of our modern day champion of the Constitution, Ron Paul? This is indeed one day that can hardly be misconstrued or twisted into a Ron Paul smear. Shouldn’t there be an effort to unite Ron Paul supporters around Thanksgiving Day, given its rich history?

Good news, There is!

Its a national Ron Paul supporter food drive for all those who may otherwise go hungry this Thanksgiving.

More information about the Thanksgiving Day Ron Paul event can be found at this website, RonPaulThanksgiving.com.

From the website:

“This will send a message to Americans and the world that personal responsibility and initiative can never be replaced by tax-funded redistribution programs, which are always plagued by severe bureaucratic waste. Help tell the country about Ron Paul’s hopeful message: that freedom REALLY WORKS!”
