Update: Unfortunately the first vote on “cloture” passed 74-8 today, there will likely be a vote on Wednesday in the Senate on final passage of the bill, S.1038. At that point it would move to the House for a vote. We need to let everyone in Congress know that it’s time to give us our freedom back, even if they ignore us, at least it won’t be said that we did nothing.
Great speech by Rand Paul. Every American should give this careful consideration.
Urgent: Need to contact your Senators and Representatives and urge them to vote no on extending any and all provisions of the Patriot Act. We don’t want four more years of warrantless spying, warantless wiretapping, searches and seizures without probable cause..they’re all ridiculous, unnecessary, even abhorent notions in a so-called “free” society.
“We can go after terrorists… but we can do it with a process that protects the innocent.” —Rand Paul

PATRIOT Act Extension Fails, For Now, OpenCongress.org
Read the short article at the link above, written by Donny Shaw, some good information. This issue is still very much alive, contact your representatives.
Kucinich: “…In 2007 the justice department’s inspector General told Congress the FBI may have violated the law or government policy as many as 3000 times since 2003 in the course of secretly collecting telephone, bank and credit card records without warrants, instead using so-called national security letters that give them the ability to demand this information and get it. The Patriot Act is a destructive undermining of the Constitution …How about today we take a stand for the Constitution to say that all Americans should be free from unreasonable search and seizure…”

Ah, yes. Homeland Security U.S.A. is the latest in mind-numbing “reality” television and it looks to be little more than propaganda for the state. Sit back, relax, and be acclimated to the incremental loss of your liberties in the comfort of your own home!
Just watch — all of these people in uniform are so nice and good and official looking! There is nothing to fear, we should give them more power to “do their jobs”. Pay no attention to the 20,000+ troops being stationed in America or the warrantless checkpoints because it’s all “for your safety” of course. Everything changed a few years ago (don’t you know?) — posse comitatus and the Bill of Rights are obsolete these days.
“Those who would give up liberty for security deserve neither…”

Ron Paul (the man who in a perfect world would’ve been elected president today) was interviewed on CNN’s American Morning show. He discussed the elections and what a new president will mean to our country.
Let’s just say it doesn’t look good no matter who of the two “evils” wins today.

Keith Olbermann rightly blasts John McCain and his band of neocon sycophants for their hypocrisy and fear mongering at the Republican National Convention in regards to 9/11, Bin Laden, and the so-called “war on terror”:

Way too much happened at the Rally for the Republic to show it all here, but some of the highlights are below. From all reports it was an amazing time. Obviously there were some excellent speakers there but also (from what I’ve heard) there was a good sense of camaraderie amongst the various types of people there as well. Freedom unites!
